A 65-inch TV has a screen about 56.7" wide and 31.9" tall (144 cm × 81 cm). With the frame, the five 65-inch models below measure 56.7" to 57.0" wide and 32.5" to 33.1" tall without the stand. Sit about 6' 6" to 8' 10" away, and wall-mount it with the bottom edge near 26" from the floor.

How big is a 65-inch TV?

TV sizes are measured diagonally across the visible screen, corner to corner, without the frame. "65-inch" is a size class: the models here measure 64.5" to 64.6" diagonally. A 16:9 screen with an exact 65" diagonal is 56.7" wide and 31.9" tall; the frame adds a fraction of an inch on each side, and the stand adds height and depth.

How far should you sit from a 65-inch TV?

  • Immersive, 6' 6" (2.0 m): the screen fills 40° of your view, the angle THX recommends for the best seat.
  • Comfortable, 8' 10" (2.7 m): the screen fills 30°, the widely cited SMPTE minimum. Most living-room seats work anywhere between the two.
  • 4K vs 1080p: closer than about 8' 5", 20/20 vision can see the extra detail of 4K. Much farther back, a 4K and a 1080p picture of this size look nearly the same.

How high to mount a 65-inch TV

Put the center of the screen at seated eye level, about 42" from the floor on a typical sofa. For a 65-inch TV that puts the bottom edge of the screen near 26" and the top edge near 58". Measure your own eye height from your usual seat: recliners sit lower, bar-height seating higher.

What size TV stand does a 65-inch TV need?

The TV itself is 56.7" to 57.0" wide, but the stand is what rests on the furniture. On the models here the stand or feet need 15.4" to 47.9" of surface. Many 65-inch TVs use feet near the outer edges, so check the stand width of the exact model before buying a console narrower than the TV.

Will a 65-inch TV fit in a car?

Measure for the box, not the TV. A 65-inch box is 62.0" to 64.1" long, 36.8" to 42.6" tall and 5.7" to 8.0" deep, and weighs 55 to 92.6 lb. Compare it with your cargo area's length with the seats folded and the height of the hatch opening, which is usually the tighter limit.

What to know before buying a 65-inch TV

  • Stands differ more than screens. LG and Samsung use a center pedestal (18.5" and 15.4" wide), so a narrow console works. TCL and Sony use feet near the edges (46.6" and about 47.9" apart), each with a narrower second position (23.5" and about 18.9").
  • Weight without the stand ranges from 36.6 lb (LG C5) to about 59.7 lb (Sony BRAVIA 7). Check the exact model against your wall mount's rating.
  • There is no common mounting pattern at this size: LG uses VESA 300 × 200, TCL and Sony 300 × 300, Samsung 400 × 300 and Hisense 600 × 400.
  • Some lines start at 65 inches. Sony sells the BRAVIA 7 only in 65, 75 and 85 inches.
