Throw blanket size
Throws run 50–60 × 60–80 inches (127–152 × 152–203 cm). Pendleton sizes its throws from 54 × 60–72 inches and describes them as smaller than a full-size blanket, for reading, watching TV or a nap.

What size is a 50 × 60 blanket?
A 50 × 60 inch blanket is a throw. L.L.Bean sells its Wicked Plush Throw in 50 × 60 as its "Large" size, and Pottery Barn Kids lists 50 × 60 as its crib blanket size. On a twin bed (38" × 75") it hangs 6 inches over each side and is 15 inches shorter than the mattress, so it won't work as a bed blanket.
Twin blanket size
Twin blankets are 64–68 × 80–96 inches. On a twin mattress (38" wide) they hang 13–15 inches over each side. Pendleton's traditional twin is the smallest at 64 × 80–84, and it makes a separate X-long twin, 66 × 96, for twin XL beds. Brooklinen and Pottery Barn sell one twin/twin XL size, 68 × 86, which reaches 6 inches past the foot of a twin XL (80" long).
Queen blanket size (and full)
Queen blankets are 90–92 × 90–96 inches (229–234 × 229–244 cm). None of the brands here make a separate full-size bed blanket: L.L.Bean, Brooklinen, Parachute and Pottery Barn sell one full/queen size, and Pendleton says its 90 × 96 queen fits full and queen beds.
On a queen (60" × 80") these hang 15–16 inches over each side and 10–16 inches at the foot. On a full (54" wide) the same blanket hangs 18–19 inches over each side.
King blanket size
King blankets are 108–114 × 90–98 inches, sold for both king and California king beds. Pendleton's king is 108 × 90 and fits both, the company says. On a king (76" × 80") they hang 16–19 inches over each side. A California king is 72 inches wide and 84 inches long, so the same blankets hang 18–21 inches over the sides but only 6–14 inches at the foot.

Keep blankets out of the crib. The American Academy of Pediatrics says a fitted sheet is the only thing that should be in the crib with a baby, and lists blankets, quilts and comforters among the soft objects and loose bedding that raise the risk of entrapment, suffocation or strangulation. Its recommendations cover babies up to 1 year old, and it suggests dressing the baby in layers or a wearable blanket instead. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the same ("Bare is Best": nothing but a fitted sheet in a crib, bassinet or play yard) and warns against weighted blankets and weighted swaddles.
How this works
- Sizes are copied from each maker's own size chart or product page, as width × length in inches, under the size name the brand uses. The ranges in the chart run from the smallest to the largest of those sizes. There is no industry standard for blanket sizes, so we don't name a single "standard" size where brands differ. Centimeters are converted from inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm) and rounded.
- The fit tool takes mattress widths and lengths from ourbed size chart. A blanket covers the mattress when, laid centered with its top edge at the head of the mattress, it hangs at least the mattress depth plus the extra drop you choose over both sides and the foot. That is our own arithmetic; brands don't publish a rule.
- Parachute lists its king/California king bed blanket as 90" × 108" under a width × length heading, narrower than its full/queen, so we left that size out.
