13 of the 14 models here fit an opening of exactly 36 inches with their maker's side clearance. Not the others: the Whirlpool WRS325SDHZ needs 36 7/8". Measure the opening at its narrowest point, since walls and cabinet sides are rarely perfectly straight.

Counter-depth 36-inch refrigerators
The counter-depth models here have a case 23 7/8" to 25" deep against 28" to 30" for standard depth, and hold 20.5 to 26.5 cu ft against 24.6 to 28.6 cu ft. Samsung puts counter-depth models at 24 to 25 inches deep without doors and handles.
