The Tracksmith Harrier Long Sleeve is the nicest long-sleeve running top I own. I wear mine in navy, in a medium, on easy and long runs when it’s about 45 to 60°F, and it’s clearly better than the other long sleeves in my drawer.

The short answer: it’s worth having one for colder weather, but at $110, I wouldn’t make a habit of buying running tops at this price. One great merino layer makes sense. A whole drawer of them is harder to justify.

Best merino running top for cool weather

Tracksmith Harrier Long Sleeve

A soft, relaxed merino blend top that handles sweat well and stays comfortable as you warm up.

Tracksmith Harrier Long Sleeve Review: Quick Verdict

Four things stand out, and it’s hard to pick just one: the fabric is soft, it handles sweat well, it stays comfortable as I warm up, and it looks good.

Price is my only real complaint. At $110, it’s a treat rather than an everyday purchase, even though it beats my cheaper tops.

How It Feels on a Run

I’ve used mine on easy and long runs, and it’s a very comfortable top for spending time on your feet. It feels soft from the first step, and it doesn’t cling or feel wet and heavy when I start sweating.

The biggest difference from my other long sleeves is how comfortable it stays over the course of a run. In the cool weather I’ve worn it in, it has been enough on its own, including once I’ve warmed up.

The fabric explains a lot of this. The Harrier is a Merino blend with 50% wool and nylon made with 37.5 Technology, which Tracksmith says helps with temperature regulation and moisture. It’s also a heavier knit than earlier versions, and Tracksmith designs it for cool to cold conditions.

Fit and Sizing

The Harrier fits true to size with a relaxed cut. My usual medium has some room through the body, which fits Tracksmith’s description of it as its most relaxed technical long sleeve.

If you want a next-to-skin base layer, this isn’t that kind of top. If you want something comfortable with a less clingy look, the relaxed fit is a plus.

What Temperature Is It Good For?

I’ve worn mine on its own at about 45 to 60°F, and that’s where I’d start. Tracksmith says it’s designed for cool to cold conditions, and the thumbholes add some coverage when it gets colder.

For the rest of a cold-weather kit, I wear the Tracksmith Fells Tights on colder runs and the Tracksmith Inverno Gloves down to about 30°F. For a cheaper merino base layer on cold runs, I use the Merino.tech 165 and the warmer Merino.tech 250.

Is the Tracksmith Harrier Long Sleeve Worth $110?

For one top, yes. It’s clearly better than my other long sleeves, and I’m glad to have it for colder runs. I just wouldn’t buy a whole rotation of running tops at this price, and I don’t think most people need to.

Buy it if you run regularly in cool weather, you value soft fabric and a relaxed fit, and you want one really good layer that also looks good.

Skip it if you want a tight base layer, you run mostly in warm weather, or spending $110 on a running shirt would bother you every time you wore it.
