Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro
This versatile smart oven is a kitchen powerhouse, offering 13 functions like roasting, air frying, dehydrating, and beyond.
Buy on AmazonWhen I first started shopping for an air fryer, I was still very skeptical. What could an air fryer do that my regular oven can’t? But after hearing a lot of positive talk from friends and folks on Reddit, I gave the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro a shot. And honestly, after discovering all this appliance had to offer, I feel like I barely have any use for my oven.
Yup, you read that right. This sleek countertop cooker is not only useful, it has become essential in my kitchen and has turned a former air fryer hater into a believer.
What is the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro?
Breville’s Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is not just an air fryer, it’s more of an all-in-one appliance. The Pro model I tested came with two racks, a 13x9 enamel pan, a mesh basket for air-frying, and a pizza pan. It has 13 distinct cooking methods:
- Air-fry
- Bake
- Roast
- Pizza
- Proof
- Reheat
- Cookies
- Slow cook
- Dehydrate
- Bagel
- Toast
Over the past few months of using the oven, I’ve cooked everything from cookies to fish, and even a whole turkey. Its versatility is really great.
What makes the Breville distinct from other air fryers out on the market is its relatively large size. It’s a little bigger than a microwave, and uses a flat mesh basket that goes into a rack to air-fry food. This allows you to fit more food across a larger surface area compared to the typical air fryer. And since the oven door is glass, you can see the food as it cooks which is super helpful in not overcooking your dinner.
Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro Product Features
As previously stated, this air-fryer’s size is one of its best features. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of counter space, there are positives and negatives to an oven of this size (14x22x12 inches). It takes up a good amount of space, but the oven has a spacious interior that fits a whole variety of dishes that other products like it simply can’t. It’s perfect for making larger side dishes and even main courses like whole chickens.
While it comes with presets, you’re not limited to only using them. For example, when baking, you can select the exact time and temperature you want. One of the best features they built into the oven is the ability to automatically convert the temperature from regular baking to convection and to super convection. No more need for conversion guides!
There are a few more subtle features that reflect Breville’s attention to detail in its product design. With a simple press of a button, you can activate “rotate remind” which alerts you at the halfway mark to turn your dish to ensure that it cooks evenly. There’s also a light that makes it easy to see into, magnets built into the door that help pull out the rack and even a specially designed loop on the appliance cord that makes it easier to insert and remove the plug.
How does the Breville Smart Oven work?
By turning a dial, you can choose from the 13 cooking modes available on the Breville Smart Oven. After picking a mode, a preset will display, allowing you to adjust the time and/or temperature as needed. For example, selecting Toast lets you pick a darkness level (1-7) and the number of slices (1-9). When you choose the Cookies mode, the oven automatically sets to 325°F with convection for 11 minutes.
To start cooking, you just position the rack (or sheet pan or air-fryer basket) at its specified height. Breville marks the correct placement for each rack on the exterior of the door: broil on the top, pizza on the bottom, and so forth. (Though, during testing, I noticed these labels can be a bit challenging to decipher.)
When the oven is running, Breville employs its “Element IQ technology” to fine-tune the heating elements’ power, ensuring food cooks flawlessly. Similar to other air fryers and convection ovens, a fan inside circulates hot air evenly throughout, providing the consistent heat and airflow needed to achieve perfectly crispy results.
How well does it hold up long term?
I’ve owned this oven since Christmas 2024 and use it almost daily. Honestly, except for Christmas baking (which demands an unusual amount of oven space), this air fryer has completely taken over for my traditional oven.
The only notable downside I’ve encountered is that the pizza pan has scratched and chipped quite a bit. The other accessories (air-fry basket, baking sheet, etc.) seem fine, though. We use the pizza pan a lot, so we’ll likely replace it soon—maybe with something like the HexClad pizza steel.
I still love the convection and super convection settings for fast cooking. The fact that it preheats in a fraction of the time my old oven required is a lifesaver when I’m running late on dinner or already starving. Cleaning is a breeze too—way simpler than a full-sized oven since it’s right on the counter. No more bending or kneeling! Just slide out the crumb tray and wipe the window. Plus, the large front window makes it easy to check on food as it cooks, which has rescued us from burnt meals more than once!
